Codes

Check with your local community (city) to see what codes apply to your project. New construction must meet current city codes. When remodeling, check to see if the city building codes have changed since your home was built. If so, those coded elements (in the kitchen and any affected areas) will have to be upgraded to bring them to current code. You may even need to move and/or add electrical or plumbing elements (such as electrical circuits and breakers) to meet code. Some examples include outlets that may need to be grounded (G.F.C.I.) or that may need to be closer together.
