Natural Stone Whether
it is made into a slab or produced as a tile, each piece of natural stone
is unique! As a group, natural stones are costly, yet beautiful. The most
commonly used stones for countertops are granite, slate, and soapstone.
Their textures are primarily polished or honed. Some stone types are preferred
over others for different applications due to their porosity (permeability
to fluids). The more porous the stone, the easier it will stain. In order
to protect the stone, some need to be sealed and others need to be oiled--always
use the right products to allow the stone to breathe.
