Purchasing
Guide
To
familiarize yourself with the product options currently available, examine
the full scope. This will also give you a good idea of the price range--you
may find a "similar" option at several price points. Ask a sales professional
to explain the various features and options such as its material content,
construction, quality, colors, styles, textures, durability, production
availability, installation, maintenance, and advantages and disadvantages.
Visit showrooms to see demo models, floor models, and remnants--you may
be able to find a bargain! In addition, link to product manufacturers'
web sites for more information, pictures, and specs. See the manufacturers
listed (alphabetically) for each product section. Also see our Resource
Index for a complete list of product manufacturers (alphabetically).
Be sure to check the lead-time for each product--General Contractors prefer
to start your kitchen when all the products are on-site. If your purchases
will be several months down the "pipe", ask your sales representative
if new options in materials, features, and colors are anticipated soon.
Product rebates are often available, but they have an expiration date--so
keep that in mind as well.
Your investigations will lead you to the right products that have the
most appropriate options to meet both your needs and your budget. (See
our Wants & Needs Checklist in the Research Phase of our Personal
Project Organizer). You may also link to the product manufacturers'
web sites for more information, pictures, and specs.
Before you order your new products, review NKBA's
"40 Guidelines" for Cabinet Storage (6-12), Counter Surface and Landing
Space (22-34), and Room, Appliance and Equipment Control (35-40).
When you receive your new products, take the time to read through the
owner's manual for operating directions and maintenance tips to get the
most out of their special features--remember you paid for them! Mail or
register on-line in the warranty cards. Put these manuals and associated
paperwork in your Personal
Project Organizer so that you can find them easily when needed.
