Space
Saving Units
Sometimes,
you just don't have the space for a separate laundry room, so when space
is tight, let your kitchen do double duty and include a "stacked" or "undercounter"
washer and dryer. As these units are designed to be front-loading make
sure you leave extra clearance in front. To accommodate taller occupants
or a Universal Design, you can raise your units and countertop for easier
access or create a wall cabinet with storage above and below (with or
without doors).
Stacked units are not as wide and their tubs are not as big as in conventional
units. Though, what you loose in size, you may gain in added convenience
and step savings. Look for an optional convenient pullout shelf that can
be placed between a stacked washer and dryer.
TIP: Don't forget to include cabinets for detergents, a small tub
sink for soaking, etc. and possibly a fold-down ironing board. This area
might also hold your cleaning supplies and/or function as a "broom closet".
